12 Days of Christmas - 1st and 2nd

This is my first post to the group, and I am as always, a little late to the party-

Day 1 and Day 2.  I do hope to have Day 3 finished by month end.   This is a picture of how it will look when it is finished - found in the Cross Stitch and Needle Work Magazine (no longer publishing). I have spent a lot of time deciding if I really wanted to stitch the big pear tree in the middle or just have the days in three rows of four.  There are so many fractional stitches in those leaves. I do think I am going to go with the pattern as charted.

March - 3rd Day of Christmas / 3 Turtle Doves by Margaret Sherry

March is the time for the 3rd Day of Christmas, and 3 Turtle Doves. I'm enjoying stitching Margaret Sherry's 12 Days.

I make my own through mistakes that I leave in, and work around. Thread colors that I change because I don't have it. Or in the case of the beret in this month's chart, I have just chosen to use Very Dark Pewter Grey rather than Black.

I've also chosen to use more color in my "Backstitching" to highlight.  I used Very Dark Pewter Grey, Very Dark Salmon, as well as the Dark Coffee Brown that is charted.

Margaret Sherry's French Hen is simple in it's design and colors. It's been fun to stitch, and very relaxing.

Here is a picture I pulled off the internet of her design.

My version of 3Turtle Doves.  It looks like one of the French Knots for an eye is a little loose, and needs to be fixed. Overall it turned out pretty well. I'm happy. I also noticed that my backstitching along the outside of the bread isn't showing up for some reason. It is there however.

These are the progress photos. One for each day that I actually stitched.

I know that it isn't much of a tip, but for me it works well. My backstitching always seems lumpy, and doesn't lay flat. When I can I use a running stitch instead. I stitch every other stitch until I reach the end. Then I turn and fill in the missing stitches. They lay much flatter for me. I hope this helps you in some way.

Until next month fellow stitchers. May your stitches lay flat, and the frogs stay far away.

Here is 3 French Hens from the PS 12 Days of Christmas leaflet.  (I'm enjoying this year's theme.)

Late... 12 Days of Christmas - Day 2

12 Days of Christmas - Plum Street Samplers
Free design - link to the Plum Street Samplers "Grand Finale" blog post is here

Sorry.... I am so late posting this pic of my finished second day square.  I did have this finished in February but I just kept running out of time to post!

I am stitching this on 28ct Jobelan "Gold Digger" from Colour Cascade Fabrics and using threads from Jodyri Designs.  The colours I am using are: Sense & Sensibility, Wuthering Heights, The Olde Curiosity Shoppe and Into Midnight (the border).

Day 3 is progressing nicely.... hopefully I will get back to post that before the end of March!

Til next time, happy stitching :o)

Serendipitous Jo's March's French Hens

I have completed the third block on Joan Elliott's 12 Days of Christmas:

Here's where I was last month on the whole piece:

And here is where I am now:

I stitched for two whole days on the left hand Herald Angel but the rest of the progress has been just a little bit each evening while my son is in the bath.  Those minutes all add up over the course of a month.

Mary's Mill Hill Snowman with Christmas Lights

Here's my "Christmas lights" theme- Snow Fun by Mill Hill!! It's too bad the crystal beads don't show up better in the picture- it's really pretty in person!

This was a quick stitch for sure- I just love Mill Hill Kits!! Now I can check this off my list and attend to all my other March goals!

Day 3
Three French Hens
Margaret Sherry's Twelve Days of Christmas series.
I love her different interpretations of each one;
they are not at all what you would expect but they are fitting!

Thanks for looking and for the

February -2 Turtle Doves

2 Turtle Doves designed by Margaret Sherry.
That said, I goofed placing it onto my fabric. I started way too high. My title had to be stitched underneath.
I changed a couple of colors to something very close that I had. I also added color to my outlines.
I think that it came out pretty good inspite my mistakes.
